Every week we’re showcasing a hot Christmas Cocktail you can make at home! This week we’ve borrowed a recipe from our sister bar, Smokestack Leeds.
Smokestack’s most popular signature cocktail is the Hurricane. It’s a New Orleans classic that delivers everything you want in a rum punch. The lip-smacking tartness from passionfruit and lime, soft sweetness from the pineapple, aromatics from pimento dram and a generous kick of rum.
In New Orleans, the Hurricane is the perfect cooler for that Louisiana humidity. Over here we are always chasing our infamously short summer and so need something for those colder nights.

Smokestack’s Hot Hurricane
- 1ltr of pineapple juice
- 500ml of your favourite rum (or rums)
- 200ml Passionfruit syrup
- 100ml Grenadine
- 100ml Falernum
- 1tsp allspice
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 whole orange zest
- 1 whole lemon zest
Build in a soup kettle or stockpot.
Heat until the spices are aromatic.
Serve in a toddy glass or mug.
Add a slice of pineapple or a wheel of lime
